DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
IOWA COUNTY FAIR
PREPARATION OF FULL SIZE, MID SIZE, AND COMPACT CAR CLASS DEMOS:
1. **** Only 1977 and newer 2 or 4-door Sedan or Hardtop and Station Wagons may be used in the competition. Must have proof of year if there is a conflict. No Trucks, Chrysler Imperials, Jeeps, or Carry Alls permitted.
2. All glass must be removed from the windows, headlights, and taillights prior to the arrival at the site of competition. Rolling widows down is not permitted.
3. Absolutely NO REINFORCEMENT of any part of the vehicle or materials in trunks will be allowed. All we want is a plain car. NO EXTRA PARTS. If it is not standard from the factory, it is not allowed.
3 Trailer Hitches MUST BE REMOVED.
4 Gas Tanks: All factory gas tanks must be removed from the vehicle. Factory gas tanks are not allowed inside the vehicle for competition. Drivers must use smaller gas tanks, such as a boat tank, etc. Also, no five-gallon cans or plastic tanks allowed. These tanks must be mounted and covered. (Carpet or rubber floor mats, etc.) Behind the driver's seat of the vehicle. All gas kept in the pit area must be in a RED container.
5 Seat belts and or shoulder harnesses are REQUIRED equipment. They must be securely fastened and worn at all times during the event.
6. Doors, Trunks, Hoods, and Frames: Absolutely NO WELDING allowed on the doors, trunk lid, hood, seam on frame, or on bumper brackets. All trunk lids and hoods may be secured by the following: 2 Chains or 2 Wires per trunk lid or hood or 2 threaded rods in the trunk lid or hood. Threaded rod may be secured to the frame of the vehicle by bolting or welding. Threaded rod MUST NOT EXCEED 3/4" in diameter. Every hood must have a 12" to 14" hole cut over the carburetor.
7. Doors: All doors must be chained or wired. 1 chain or 1 Wire for each door. Chain or wire length must not exceed 24 inches. (If you wish you can have a Drivers Door bar it must be inside the drivers front door post. Max 3 in Diameter pipe, and cannot be any longer than the front driver door, and cannot be connected to the frame or sub-frame in anyway.)
8. Station Wagons: No welding on tailgates. Tailgates may be secured with two chains or wire straps. Chains or wire straps are not to exceed 30 inches in length. ABSOLUTELY NO THREADED ROD IN THE REAR OF ANY STATION WAGON WILL BE ALLOWED.
9. Bumpers: Impact bumpers may be welded on the piston only. No welding on any bumper bracket will be allowed. For additional support, drivers will be allowed to chain their bumpers using 2 Chains per bumper. Chains may be bolted or welded to the frame of the vehicle. NO UPSIDE DOWN BUMPERS.
10. Radiators: No extra radiators or transmission hook up's allowed. Must be strictly stock. WATER ONLY no antifreeze will be allowed.
11. Tires: Only 13", 14", and 15" passenger tires are permitted. Tires must not be bolted or fastened to the rim in any manner. Absolutely no skid steer, forklift, or airplane tires etc. Allowed. A LT 235 75 15 tire can be used, but size must be able to be seen by tech. Prated & Bias ply aloud. Must be DOT approved.
12. Suspension: Shocks and suspension must not be altered in any manner to increase the height of the vehicle. No stiff suspensions.
13. Batteries: One or Two stock automotive batteries or one large battery of your choice is permitted. Battery or batteries used must be securely fastened to the floor and covered. (Rubber floor mats or carpet)
14. Brakes: All cars must have brakes before the beginning of the heat. If we find that you do not have brakes before the heat. The vehicle will be disqualified.
15. Compact Car Class: A minimum of 3 cars is needed before the class will be ran. Wheel base MAXIMUM of 105 inches. NO Gremlin, Pacer, or Mavericks. Only 4 Cylinder motors are allowed for the compact car class. All rules are the same as full size cars.
16. Mid-Size Class: A minimum of 3 cars in needed before the class will be ran. Wheel base MINIMUM of 105.5” and a MAXIMUM of 108.5”. ONLY 6 CYLINDER CARS WILL BE IN MID-SIZE CLASS.
17. Drivers Seat: You may use a pipe behind the driver’s seat and dash bar [without kickers]. The pipe MUST NOT EXCEED A 3” O.D (Diameter) The pipe should be welded or bolted to side of car. The bar behind the seat must have a chain that is welded to the bar and wrapped around frame and double bolted.
18. WELDING: No welding except 3” front and rear driver’s door, Pumpkin Gears, Front and rear bumper shocks, motor mounts, and transmission mounts.
19. ENGINES: Engine in vehicle does not have to be of the same manufacturer as the body. Stacks are permitted only if completely vertical. Cannot exceed of 18” above closed hood. Compact engines must be four cylinders. Mid-size car engines must be 4 or 6 cylinder. Class determination for compact and mid-size cars will be made on the day of the show.
20. Vehicle Disposal: All drivers are responsible for the disposal of their vehicle. Including tires, parts, and all garbage. You will be responsible for cleaning up your entire area before leaving the pit.
21. Registration Fees: Car and Driver Fees will be $25.00. Pit Passes will be $10.00 each.
22. Registration: All cars must be registered by 5:30 PM the day of the demo. A $15.00 late fee per car will apply after 5:30 PM.

Driver Entry
Entries are open to men and women 18 years of age or older. Drivers 16 and 17 years of age can enter with the legal notarized approval of a parent or guardian. There must be at least 3 women entered in order to have a powder puff.
Pit Crew: All pit crew members must be 18 years of age or older. Pit crew members must be able to show proof of age upon request.
Absolutely no alcohol beverages will be permitted in the pits.
Any driver or pit crew member judged inebriated will be disqualified.
Drivers and/or owners are required to remove their demolition derby cars and trash from the fair ground or show area before departing.
I, Larry Schultz or any referee, reserve the right to approve or reject any and all entries.
Any driver protesting another car MUST DO SO BEFORE the first heat. Officials shall inspect cars being protested, with the person filing the protest and any decision reached by the officials, will be final. Demolition Derby officials reserve the right to re-inspect any car before, during, or after the show.
****A crash helmet, long sleeve shirt, long pants, seat belt and/or shoulder harness are required and must be worn throughout the entire event.****
A drivers meeting will be called before the Demolition derby begins. All Drivers and Pit Crew must attend this meeting.
No pets are allowed in the pit area.
